KS2 – Water
Explore
We will focus on raindrops and how they fall as well as concentric circles made by raindrops hitting water. You can watch a couple of examples here: –

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI1T-tG3mWk
Raindrops – explore actions space and dynamics to convey the raindrops fall and flow. The words we will explore are: –
drop, wave, ripple, splash, flick, trickle
You can use individual body parts or your whole body, what dynamics can you explore? Use a variety or levels, size and directions. Dance and explore with people at home if you can to create partner ideas.
Concentric Circles
Explore circle actions with whole body or individual body parts.
- Can they start small and increase in size just like the concentric circles do?
- The circle can be drawn in the air or on the floor, or created with body parts, so they can be still or moving.
- Can you put a small, medium and big circle into a short motif?
- Explore the idea of canon (when movements overlap in time, usually one dancer starts the sequence and another dancer starts a few seconds later. Can often look like a ‘Mexican wave’).
- Copy our actions or make up your own and join in the canon with us or with other people at home.
TASK
Using Creative Steps Raindrops & Concentric Circles PDF, choreograph a dance to represent the ideas of how water moves as raindrops falling and the concentric circles the droplets create. Below is a list of ideas to help you decide how to choreograph.
You can: –
- Choose some or all of the ideas and words to inspire you
- Put your ideas into any order you choose
- Add more words/ideas to inspire actions
- Create a duet/group dance
- Consider unison and canon if there is more than one of you
- Be as creative as you can
