Space Travel Ideas
Read/listen to the poem and explore actions to portray some of the words.
Action words (verbs): – Exploding, thundering, reaching, soaring, gliding, slicing, twinkling, turning, twisting, spinning, looking, searching, creeping, whizzing, falling
Objects (nouns): – sky, stars, planet, dream
Descriptions (adjectives): – peaceful, serene, quietly, exciting
- Explore words individually or grouped together e.g. quietly creeping, spinning planets
- Use a variety of size/levels/directions/speed
- Use whole body or individual body parts
Improvise the Poem
Listen to the poem and respond with your own movement ideas. Don’t think about them just make them up as you hear the words (improvise). You can do this as many times as you like!
5….4….3…..2….1…..Lift off
Exploding, thundering into the sky
Gaining speed, reaching so high.
Soaring, gliding, slicing the air,
Stars twinkling everywhere.
Turning, twisting and spinning around,
Looking and searching a planet to be found.
Into orbit its peaceful and serene,
Quietly creeping as if it’s a dream.
Shooting stars whizzing by,
Spinning planets across the sky.
Falling lower to the ground,
An exciting new world waits to be found.
TASK
Make sure you have a pen and paper/whiteboard to write the words in the order you choose for your dance.
Space Travel Dance
Using some of the words from the Space Travel Poem PDF create your own Space Travel dance.
Use the words/sentences to inspire your actions (what you do), your dynamics (how you move), your space (where you move) and your relationships (with who)
You can: –
- Follow the order of the words
- Change the order
- Pick out only 5 or 6 words to create your dance
- Make a duet/group dance if you have other people to dance with at home
- Practice it as many times as you want with the music
