What is Creative Steps?

A Primary Dance resource for EYFS, KS1 & KS2.

It is a toolkit designed to enable Primary staff to deliver a progressive, creative and high quality dance curriculum throughout the school. Staff training covers the building blocks of dance, how to use a variety of stimuli to inspire choreography, and top tips and tools to confidently deliver creative to dance to support the wider curriculum.

Everything you need is in one place – lesson plans, additional resources to support learning and specially composed music is all on a digital learning platform which can be accessed at any time and in any place.

Why Creative Dance?

There are many benefits of creative dance that extend beyond the physical aspects. It enables the development of team work, cognitive, personal, social and emotional skills as well as exploring the curriculum in a creative, expressive and physical way.

Creative dance is effective at building confidence, independence and problem solving through empowering children’s creative choices.

Creative Steps resource supports:

‘Intent Implementation and Impact’ areas of the new Ofsted framework by providing effective support for those teaching outside their main areas of expertise with schemes of work that give cross curricular opportunities to all learners, enabling them to develop detailed knowledge and skills across the curriculum and, as a result, achieve well.

Personal development’ section of the Ofsted framework. The creative dance tasks allow learners to combine body and mind to explore the curriculum beyond the academic, technical or vocational, enabling them to develop and discover their interests and talents. Opportunities to create work as a whole class, in pairs, small groups and as individuals helps to support learners to develop their character – including their resilience, confidence and independence and help them know how to keep physically and mentally healthy. Observing the variety of creative response outcomes from one dance task will encourage pupils to be respectful towards each other, and to celebrate and appreciate the similarities and differences.
